Energy and spoons

What can I say? I’m a planner addict. When I have uncertainties about my future I try to plan, to forecast all the possibilities. And, mostly, I end up doing the activities that require less effort. It happens because when I try too much, I burn out. In that moment it is too late to turn back, the worst is done. It is part of my personality, of who I am. But, with this new path that I have taken, they will help me on focusing on my day-to-day schedule. Trying to plan without being so obsessed about it (as I told in the previous post). So in an healthy way.

To explain me how to organize my time, they gave me an hint. They told me to visualize the energy of each day as having 12 different spoons. Each activity requires a different number of spoons. The more difficult for you the task is, the more spoons you need. Remember: once you have finished them, there is no turning back. You need absolutely to recharge. For example, I find very difficult to have human relationship. I have difficulties in understanding human behavior, human intentions. It is easier writing a code than listening to someone. For me 4 hours of studying are equal to 2 hours of conversation. Saying 6 spoons. So, I have only 6 spoons left. As I’m living with my boyfriend, I need also to use other spoons for house works. Like, going to a grocery store, cooking, doing the dishes, doing the laundry etc. Also, I left out my blog, doing sports, singing and other hobbies. For me is also very exhausting answering to whatsapp messages. As my goal is to study from 6 to 8 hours per day, I need to properly balance the other activities such that I will not be burned out by the end of the day. And I shall be realistic about it.

Lets’ make an example: Monday.

  • 6 hours of studying -> 8 spoons.
  • Singing lessons -> 2 spoons.
  • Laundry -> 1/2 spoon.
  • Cooking -> 1/2 spoon.

I left out one spoon that I can use to do something else. Or, I cannot use and recharge a bit.

BUT BUT BUT: you need also some way to charge yourself. A way to recharge myself is through yoga, watching tv series, writing a post on the blog, petting my cat, singing, sleeping, staying with my boyfriend and, if I do not have to study, staying with my best friends. These activities are important. Because they allow you to recharge. Do not forget about them.If you feel burned out each day, try to use this tool for one week. I hope it will help you out with being less stressed, more happy and more conscious about yourself.

The content of this post is a bit different. This way of handling my life is helping me a lot. And, as my goal in this blog is helping you reader, it was straightforward for me to writing it. Hope you enjoyed it.

Thank you for reading. I wish you a good day!
